The 2009-2010 Alpine Skiing European Cup starts Today at Monte Pora

The Men’s Alpine Skiing European Cup starts today on the slopes of the Monte Pora ski resort. Some of the best Italian and international athletes will take part in this prestigious two-day sporting event, held on the 18th and 19th of February. This professional event is sponsored and organized by the Italian ski club Sci Club Radici Group (www.sciradici.com) in the spirit of sportsmanship and with great passion for this sport.

The 2009-2010 European Cup season opened on 9 November for men and on 20 November for women. As of 16 February 2010, the lead in the slalom standings belongs to Anton Lahdenperae of Sweden, who has 333 points, followed by another Swede, Axel Baeck, in second place with 320 points, and by the Slovenian Matic Skube in third place, with 289 points. Also in the top ten is the Italian Stefano Gross, ninth with 212 points. In the giant slalom, the standings are as follows: the Austrian Christoph Noesig, first with 398 points; the Italian Florian Eisath, second with 362 points; and the Austrian Bjoern Sieber, third with 347 points. Two other Italian skiers are in the top ten, namely Omar Longhi and Wolfgang Hell, in seventh and eighth places with 256 and 212 points, respectively.

As in the previous season, the two-day men’s alpine skiing event of the European Ski Cup on the Bergamo ski runs will be dedicated to the Italian skiing champion Fausto Radici, who won a place on the podium of the 1973 Alpine Skiing Overall European Cup.

Monte Pora, host of this event, is an important ski resort in the province of Bergamo, with all the winter sport facilities and services, capable of holding national as well European ski competitions (http://www.presolanamontepora.it/).
