Overview
Based on small and medium-sized enterprises and institutions, the environmental protection industry of Chongqing is the ascendant sunrise industry with key enterprises of great strength playing the leading role and the emerging technologies as the representatives. Environmental protection engineering companies, manufactures of equipment for environmental protection engineering and technology centers are experiencing rapid development. Main fields concerned are: desulfurization and dedusting of flue gas, urban sewage treatment, industrial pollution from ships, hazardous waste disposal, manufacturing of instrumentation for environment monitoring, key technology development and product manufacturing of natural gas vehicle, detection and control of interior decoration pollution, comprehensive utilization of waste, environmental protection for enterprises and relevant facility operation.
There are about 1,000environmental protection enterprises in Chongqing. The output value of environmental protection industry was about RMB 15 billion in 2007, mainly from four aspects: environmental protection design and general contracting services(including environment engineering), about RMB 3 billion per year; manufacturing of environment-friendly products, about RMB 1.5 billion per year; enterprises engaged in comprehensive utilization and renewable resources engaged in cleaner products(including enterprises related to technology and products of natural gas vehicle), about RMB2.5 billion per year.
Chongqing is one of the three bases for development of national environmental protection industry awarded by State Environmental Protection Administration.
Plan
The 11th Five-year-Plan of Chongqing industry also focuses on construction of four state-level R&D and production bases for complete sets of environmental protection equipment and so on.
China’s 11th Five-year Plan of environmental protection laid stress on “actively develop environmental protection industry”, “vigorously develop the environmental protection industry an emerging pillar industry of national economy”.
According to the estimate by Chongqing Environment Industry Association, by 2010, the output value of Chongqing environmental protection industry will reach RMB 40 billion.
In the next five years, Chongqing environmental protection industry will experience great development in relevant fields, including pollution control, renewable resources and recycling, cleaner production, ecological remediation, etc. technologies of environmental protection industry will experience continuous innovation. Chongqing environmental protection enterprises are hunting for technical cooperation on waste treatment, removal of heavy metals in flue gas, ecological animal husbandry, livestock and poultry breeding industry, extraction of heavy metals from electroplating sludge and waste liquid of heavy metal, di-saassembly as well as separation and extraction of e-waste, ecological remediation of soil and rivers, manufacturing of environmental protection equipment and instrument, collection of carbon dioxide and carbon capture etc. Chongqing environmental protection industry welcomes companies from the world to extensively promote environmental protection industry and technology cooperation in Chongqing, technology transfer or becoming a shareholder, joint ventures and sales and after-sales service center.
